CHAPTER THIRTEEN

NOTE: Sunday, October 7th's lesson begins with Question 7.

  1. As chapter 13 begins, Luke mentions some that were present at that time. What did they tell Jesus? (v. 1)

  2. Relate what you know about the occasion they mention to Jesus.

  3. What is implied in Jesus' words about what caused the Galileans to be killed by Pilate?

  4. What is Jesus' warning to them? (vv. 3, 5)

  5. Another group is mentioned by Jesus who would fit the same scenario. Who were they? What happened to them? Why did they die?

  6. Put the parable in vv. 6-9, in your own words. What is it teaching?

  7. In vv. 10-17, Luke records the healing of a woman with what condition?

    1. How quickly was she healed, when Jesus spoke and laid His hands on her?

    2. Why was the ruler of the Synagogue incensed?

    3. Of what does Jesus accuse him?

    4. How did Jesus respond to his charge?

    5. What did Jesus' response cause among his adversaries?

  8. Jesus taught two short parables in which He likened the kingdom of heaven to two different things?

    1. In v. 19, what was the kingdom likened to? What is the lesson of the parable?

    2. In v. 20-21, what was the kingdom likened to? What is the lesson of this parable?

  9. What was the question posed to Jesus in v. 23?

  10. How did He answer the question in vv. 24ff?

  11. When the master of the house said, "I know you not whence ye are" (v. 25b), how will the people respond? (v. 26). What is meant by their defense?

  12. Why will these people be "thrust out"?

  13. Explain the paradoxical statement in v. 30.

  14. What did certain of the Pharisees say to Jesus as recorded in v. 31?

  15. How did Jesus describe Herod? What did He say that they should tell Herod?

  16. How did Jesus describe Jerusalem? (v. 34)

  17. How did He express His feelings for Jerusalem?

  18. Explain what "your house is left unto you desolate" means.

  19. When would they see Jesus again?
