THE GOSPEL OF LUKE
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
- To whom did Jesus address the parable of the Steward?
- What is a "steward"?
- Of what was this steward accused?
- Why was the steward apprehensive about being called into account
of his stewardship?
- How did he resolve that he would prepare for when he would lose his
stewardship?
- Was this steward a just man? Why did the lord commend him?
- Explain the statement: "…for the children of this world are
in their generation wiser than the children of light."
- Why should we make friends of the mammon of unrighteousness? What
is mammon?
- What is the principle stated in vv. 10-11?
- As a second lesson from the parable, Jesus says that we cannot serve
God and mammon. Why not?
- Why did the Pharisees deride Him?
- Did they seek to justify themselves before God or men? Of what real
value is it to justify ourselves before men?
- Explain v. 16.
- How secure is everything that God said in the law?
- Why does Jesus make an observation here about "putting away"?
- Would you classify vv. 19-31 as a parable, a myth or a true story?
Explain your answer.
- Contrast the two men of whom Jesus speaks. What is the name of the
beggar? What is the name of the rich man?
- Both died - what happened next?
- What was the condition of the rich man? What was the condition of
Lazarus?
- Since the rich man realized that neither he nor Lazarus could change
their conditions, what did he request that Abraham do?
- Why was that request not honored?
- Do you believe that if one came back from the dead to tell of the
state of the lost in Hades, that men would change? Why, or why not?
