THE GOSPEL OF LUKE
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
- Frequently, Jesus does not state the lesson in parables He teaches
- this is left up to His disciples to extract and apply. However in vv. 1-8, He prefaces His parable with the
lesson He wants us to learn. What is the lesson from this parable?
- How can a man be a "judge" who does not fear God or regard
man? Upon what basis would he render judgment? Would a person ever get a fair trial in his court?
- If an unjust judge acts on the principle of avenging a person because
of being wearied down by her continual coming, what will the Just God do?
- Unto whom is the parable of vv. 9-14, directed?
- Describe the difference in the prayers of the two men.
- Why did one man go to his house justified and the other one not justified?
- Explain the principle in v. 14b. Give some other passages that teach
the same lesson.
- Why did the disciples rebuke Jesus (v. 15)?
- What does Jesus mean by "…for of such is the kingdom of God"?
- Explain the "kingdom principle" in v. 16.
- What does Jesus mean by "Why callest thou me good? None is good,
save one, that is, God"?
- What was the one thing the ruler lacked? Why was the ruler sorrowful?
- Is it impossible for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God?
Which is easier - a camel going through the eye of a needle or a rich man entering into the kingdom?
- What was the reaction of the disciples to Jesus statement here?
- How did Jesus respond to Peter's statement that they had left all
to follow Him? What will those who have left house, parents, brethren, wife…receive? Explain.
- Jesus tells His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem to suffer
and die, why do they not understand? Find instances where He had told them that truth before.
- Upon what day would He rise again?
- What healing took place near the city of Jericho? What does this
tell you about where Jesus is going and the proximity to His destination?
- What happened after Jesus healed the man?
