THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

CHAPTER FOUR

  1. Chapter 4, picks up in the narrative of Christ's life from chapter 3:22,23, at the point in time when John baptized Jesus. Where was Jesus led by the Spirit to be tempted? How many days were involved?

  2. List the three temptations presented to Jesus by the devil?

  3. In each instance what was Jesus' response to the devil?

  4. When Jesus returned to Galilee, He finally came to Nazareth and entered into the synagogue on the Sabbath. From what prophet did He read? Where is the passage found? To whom did apply the scripture?

  5. Why was the question, "Is not this Joseph's son?", presented?

  6. What does the proverb, "Physician, heal thyself…", mean?

  7. Why is a prophet not accepted in his own country?

  8. Explain the statements in vv. 25-27. Why did these statements cause the people in the synagogue to be enraged?

  9. Jesus was met by what kind of a man in the synagogue in Capernaum? Why do you think he was able to recognize Jesus? What happened to the man? Why were the people astonished?

  10. Jesus went to the house of Simon who had a mother-in-law who was sick. Name one thing that proves. What did Jesus do for the mother-in-law?

  11. How extensive were the miracles Jesus did in Capernaum? How many failures were there?

  12. Why could Jesus not just stay in Capernaum?
