  2. UNDERSTAND WHY THE PROPHET WAS CALLED BY GOD TO SPEAK.

  3. SINCE THE DATES OF OBADIAH, JOEL AND JONAH ARE SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN, WE WILL STUDY THEM FIRST, BECAUSE THEY REALLY SEEM TO FIT IN THE EARLY-ASSYRIAN PERIOD OF TIME -- BETWEEN 845 B.C AND 800 B.C.

OUTLINE OF OBADIAH

  1. Utter destruction of Edom decreed, vv. 1-16.

    1. Announcement of the judgment, vv. 1-9.

      1. The decree, v. 1.

      2. Condition: deceived by pride, despised and debased by Jehovah, vv. 2-4.

      3. Completeness of the destruction, vv. 5-6.

      4. Treachery of his allies, v. 7.

      5. Failure of his wisdom and might, vv. 8-9.

    2. Cause of the judgment against Edom, vv. 10-14.

      1. Violence and unbrotherly conduct toward Judah, vv. 10-11.

      2. Warning against such conduct, vv. 12-14.
        
        					
    3. Terrors of the judgment: the day of Jehovah, vv. 15-16.

  2. Exaltation of Israel: the kingdom of Jehovah to be established upon Mount Zion, vv. 17-21.

  1. Specifically, what people are the ones addressed by this prophet?

  2. From whom had the Edomites descended? (compare vv. 8-9

  3. What message did the "ambassador" bring to the nations about Edom

  4. What sin, more than any other, is identifiable with Edom

  5. How is Edom's pride described

  6. God said to Edom's arrogance, "Though thou mount on high as the _____________, and though thy nest be set among the ______________, I will bring them down from then, saith Jehovah," (v. 4

  7. What is God's point in 5, that thieves would not take all and grape-gathers would leave some gleanings
