The previous article entitled “The Bible And Hate Crimes” was not accurate in describing “The Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Amendment.” It said: “It is a law that makes speaking out against homosexuality a hate crime punishable by imprisonment and/or a fine.” The proposed amendment does not, in its current form, make it a crime to speak against homosexuality. What should have been said was that this kind of law has naturally evolved in other countries -- Canada and Sweden, for instance -- to make it a crime punishable by imprisonment and/or a fine to speak against homosexuality. How much time it will take to make that transition in the US depends, to a great degree, upon the moral fiber of our lawmakers – and that is very suspect.
Everyone needs to remember that these public officials are elected and everyone needs to let them know where they stand. It is the agenda of homosexuals and their sympathizers to make application of such an amendment beyond acts of violence to statements of condemnation that could be interpreted as inciting violent action. And, since the Bible clearly condemns homosexuality, they view the Bible as a supporter of hate crimes, though the Bible never justifies any kind of crime – those originating from hate or otherwise.
However, the Bible sets the standard for right and wrong moral behavior based on the authority of Heaven and the accountability of man to God (Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). So, whatever laws and amendments passed by our governing bodies cannot change what is wrong into what is right. Believers must stand firmly against all forms of fornication but they do so with love for lost souls and without malice (Jude 3; Ephesians 6:10-18).
