"An All-Seeing Eye"

Tab Spacer There is an old, old song entitled, “Watching You” – know it’s old because used to sing it when I was a kid and it was old then. It goes like this -- “All along on to the road to the soul’s true abode, there’s an eye watching you; every step that you take this great eye is awake, there’s an eye watching you…There’s an all-seeing eye watching you.”

Tab Spacer The song exhorts us to faithfulness by reminding us that God is omniscient – he sees everything; he knows everything. Most thieves work under the cover of darkness or distraction. Most people will not lie to your face but behind your back. To observe the best table manners, watch people eat at a public place among important people. All of that merely bears testimony to the fact that people act their best when they know someone is watching.

Tab Spacer A truth that we sometimes forget is that the Lord is watching us ALL THE TIME and in fact he seems more than “Superman does,” because he can see through lead. He watches every step and he sees through every flimsy excuse offered in attempting to justify unfaithfulness. The Psalmist said, “Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” (Psalms 139:7). God is in heaven, in Sheol, in the sea, and even in the darkness does not keep him from seeing (Psalms 139:8-12). Like the little boy said, when the man offered him a dime if he could tell him where God was – “Mister, I’ll give you a dollar, if you’ll tell me where he ain’t.”

Tab Spacer Someone is watching you – someone to whom your whole soul is laid bare.
