"Careless Ease of Fools" |
| Solomon wrote of a terrible day "when your fear cometh as a storm, and your calamity
cometh on as a whirlwind." Those caught in such destruction had "despised reproof";
and were victims of "the careless ease of fools." (Prov. 1:24-33) THE CARELESS EASE OF FOOLS ... give that some thought!! In N.T. times the same class of people are described as those who "will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires." (2 Tim.4:3 N.A.S.) I am reminded of a recipient of PLAIN TALK who "Refused" the paper. When I inquired as to "Why?" she did not want the paper, she acknowledged that we were fair, had not hurt her feelings,-- and told the truth. But -- she "didn't like to read things like that." They made her uncomfortable. If truth, fairly put, makes one uncomfortable; are we amiss in warning of "the careless ease of fools"? Ours is a day of "careless ease"-- "eat, drink, and be merry!" When Solomon said it, he spoke of the vanity of life; and when Isaiah said it, he concluded, "for tomorrow we die"' |
We want "liberty" to ignore right; "freedom" to run roughshod
over our brethren; but there is neither liberty nor freedom in such a course. We are CREATURES -- and no head-in-the-sand
policy can hide the fact that our only hope lies in acknowledging and serving our CREATOR.
