Because He Lives

Many beautiful, inspiring songs tell us of the matchless love, mercy and grace of our God. Songs petition His love and watchfulness over us and the precious promise of a home in heaven with the faithful in Christ, when life for us is over this side of eternity. However, I fear sometimes we sing but don't let the words take control of our thoughts, plucking our heart strings, absorbing the powerful meaning they convey to us. One that I have loved for years is "Because He Lives." The words of the chorus express the priceless comfort and blessings we become heirs to through the redeeming blood of our living Savior.

"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. "

"Because He lives all fear is gone."

"Because I know He holds the future. "

"And life is worth the living just because He lives!"

This beautiful, soul stirring song and the wondrous truth that it conveys, brings to light the faith, hope and dependence of the child of God upon the Father and the truth that we serve a living Savior. The sacrificial shedding of His life's blood in perfect obedience to the Father for such as we are, should move us to say, "Thy will be done in all things'

"Because He lives" we can lay our head on our pillows in restful sleep, knowing that our heavenly Father dwells with us. No, I cannot fully explain the magnificent love of our Father in heaven or why He loves one as undeserving as I am with a love of such magnitude. What indescribable mercy and grace we are afforded because our Savior lives.

"Because He lives" we can come without fear before the throne of our Creator, who will answer our unfeigned prayers according to His will. The privilege of petitioning our God and knowing that He cares for us and His ears are open to our request, is beyond mans ability to fully understand.

I John 5:14-15 "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, he heareth us: and if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him."

"Because He lives" we are never alone. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are always with us as He promised. Hebrews 13:5 "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee."

The Holy Spirit will intercede and help our infirmities as we bring our prayers before our God, when words and mind fail us and we know not how to ask Him.

Romans: 8:26-27 "Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

"Because He Lives" we are blessed with a loving family of brothers and sisters in Christ's body the church.

John 13: 34-35 "A new commandment I wive you, that ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow." Can you imagine life without a strong faith in the living God? What emptiness must be experienced in such a state. There is but one conclusion; if we were without God and His church, tomorrow would be empty. Life would be without motive. Faith and obedience to God's will overcomes the emptiness and there is reason and comfort to face the uncertainty of the future.

"I can face tomorrow" because we have assurance and confidence that there is a prepared place for us in heaven when this life is over because our Savior told us so.

John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come wain, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

"Because He lives all fear is gone"

As the saying goes, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." When serving the living God we have no reason to fear. If we fear, then our faith wanes and causes doubt and weakness. We have no reason to fear, with our great living God as our protector.

Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We have such wonderful assurance from our Savior that loves us with love that passeth understanding.

Ephesians 3:17-19 "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

"Because I know He holds the future"

The Christian's future is made certain because we live without doubt that God lives and holds all of His creation in His hands. He will without fail, bring to pass the promises He has spoken in His holy word. When we stand fast in His service, we will have through His mercy and grace, a place with Him in heaven.

II Cor. 5:1 "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."

"And life is worth the living just because He lives" To make life worth living, it must be goal driven. The goal of the faithful child of God is to serve and please the Father in heaven in all that we do and say, growing in knowledge and practice of His will each day. How futile life would be without hope of a home in heaven with our beloved Father when this life comes to a close for us. What a successful and precious goal we will have attained, when we hear Him say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of thy Lord". Matthew 25: 21

That's what the Christian life is all about, "Because He lives"!
