Out of the Mouths of Babes
A four-year-old boy lived next door to an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. One day he saw the old man sitting on his porch crying. He walked over, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there for a while.
When he came home his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor.
The boy replied, “Nothing, Momma, I just helped him cry.”
A Negro slave had defied his master’s order not to read the Bible and was being flogged for it. As the whip cut into his flesh his owner taunted him with: “What can your Bible do for you now, boy?”
“It can teach me to forgive my master,” he replied.
